As technology becomes increasingly integrated into all aspects of our lives, how we mourn and remember our loved ones has also begun to shift into the domain of the digital. This necessitates a critical examination of who owns the rights to our digital remains as well as how the digitization of familial artifacts shifts how we relate to them materially. We hope to promote a culture of digital empowerment by facilitating workshops that educate the public on strategies to reclaim ownership over their online presence. By cultivating awareness and agency in navigating these cultural shifts, we aim to ensure that personal and collective histories remain in the hands of those who cherish them most. This continued collaboration will continue to explore the complex interplay between digital heirlooms, mourning practices, and data ownership, revealing the emotional and cultural implications of transitioning from tangible artifacts to digital representations.
